In June 2025, we began a seismic retrofit project at the Kingston Ferry Terminal.  Construction will last through July 2026. Ferry service will operate as normal, except for a delay of 20-30 minutes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for the 9:40 p.m. Kingston to Edmonds departure. This delay may also affect later sailings.

The traffic signal and boarding pass system at the Kingston terminal is active daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Indigenous Peoples’ Day on Oct. 12.   Using the Kingston boarding pass system  Follow the signal: Ferry-bound traffic will follow the traffic signal on SR 104 into a designated lane.   Take a pass: Stop at the automated dispenser and take your pass. If you leave the line after taking a pass, you will need to re-enter the line and take a new pass.   Wait for Green: Once the system detects space at the terminal, your light will turn green. Proceed directly to the tollbooths.   Standard operating days and times  The system will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. during these peak periods:   Summer Season: Daily from Mother’s Day through Indigenous Peoples’ Day.   Year-Round: Every Saturday and Sunday.   Holidays: Daily during the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s.   The purpose of this system is to help improve traffic flow through Kingston and deter ferry line cutting. We are monitoring how the system is working and will make adjustments as needed to improve operations.  

The Washington State Ferries terminal conditions are offline for all of our terminals. Our IT team is looking into the issue. We will provide an update when have additional information.

Starting Monday, May 11 through Friday, May 29, there will be sign installation work at the Kingston terminal during off-peak travel times. We do not expect impacts to vehicle traffic. For ferry riders using the overhead walkway, we may occasionally close a small area to complete the work.  

Update - The #1 Puyallup remains out of service through Sunday, May 31, as troubleshooting continues over the weekend to resolve a mechanical issue.    The #2 Chimacum will be running on the #2 sailing schedule: Seattle / Bremerton Schedule Updates will be provided as more information becomes available regarding a return to two-boat service.

The passenger elevator on the M/V Chetzemoka is out of service. The car deck does not have an accessible restroom. Please contact the crew if you need to use the small freight elevator, although it is not ADA accessible. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Updates will be provided as conditions change.

Due to a shortage of crew, the #2 Suquamish will sail at reduced passenger capacity this afternoon. This may cause loading delays. Updates will occur when more information is available.

Tide conditions will cancel one or more sailings from Port Townsend and Coupeville in June. Please see our Tidal Cancellations table for a complete list of affected dates and departures. On Monday, June 1, the 9:30 a.m. sailing from Port Townsend and the 10:15 a.m.  sailing from Coupeville are cancelled due to tidal conditions. The #2 Chimacum left Bremerton an estimated 30 minutes behind schedule for a late 1:30 p.m. sailing to Seattle. We'll send updated travel information as it becomes available. Update - There is an estimated two hour wait for drivers departing Kingston. An automated-issued pass is required to purchase a ticket. We’re rolling out a new pet policy in time for the busy summer travel season. Starting today, May 20, we will begin a six-week education and transition period to help people learn the new rules before they take effect on July 1.  Under the updated policy, pets are allowed in three areas:  On vehicle decks  In outdoor passenger areas  In marked areas inside cabins on the opposite end from the galley  Pets are not allowed in the galley or on passenger seating and tables. They also cannot stay inside the cabin on the galley end of the vessel. Pet owners may pass through this restricted area but must take the most direct route and not stop.  Learn more about the new pet policy on our Pets webpage.

Elevators 1 and 2 at Colman Dock remain out of service due to a mechanical issue. The Alaskan Way #4 Elevator and the Pier 50 elevator (along the front of the building) are both in service and available for customer use. We are working with vendors to get the other elevators repaired and will provide updates as conditions change.

The #1 elevator on the #2 Chimacum is out of service. The M/V Chimacum has two ADA compliant elevators and wide staircases that provide access from both car decks to the passenger and sun decks. There are accessible restrooms on the car deck, main passenger deck and the sun deck. Notify ticket seller if you are traveling by car and need to park near an elevator or car deck restroom.  On Monday, June 1, Washington State Ferries will celebrate its 75th anniversary!   To kick off the celebration, we’ll raise a custom anniversary flag on top of the Space Needle. Ferries in service will also fly special 75th anniversary flags throughout June.  Riders can receive anniversary giveaways, available as long as supplies last.  Rider can get a free small coffee or small popcorn with any purchase at our on-board galleys, while supplies last on June 1 only.  ORCA will host an interactive station from 3-5 p.m. June 1 at Colman Dock in Seattle.
